IPL 2020: "We have sorted out our bowling in the death overs", says Yuzvendra Chahal

Chahal also talked about RCB's spin department, inclusion of Adam Zampa and playing behind closed doors.

The veteran leggie is being ready for the tournament | Twitter/Yuzvendra ChahalYuzvendra Chahal is confident that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have overcome their longstanding issue of bowling at the death ahead of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting September 19.

Chahal, RCB's experienced lead spinner, believes the good showing at the auction has certainly added more depth to the bowling attack, which shall hold Virat Kohli and company in good stead as they eye their maiden title in UAE.

"We have sorted out our bowling in the death overs. We have Dale (Steyn) sir, (Navdeep) Saini, (Chris) Morris and Umesh (Yadav) bhaiya. We are not worried about bowling the last few overs because everyone is ready and on wickets here (in UAE) spinners too can chip in with a couple of overs," Chahal told the Times of India

The 30-year-old leggie, though, knows well the spin department will be just as crucial in those conditions. "We have Washi (Washington Sundar), Moeen (Ali) and Shahbaz (Ahmed) in the line-up. That’s a good spin bowling attack to tackle the surfaces at the three venues — Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi."

Additionally, RCB signed Australian wrist-spinner Adam Zampa as a replacement of pacer Kane Richardson after he pulled out of the tournament.

"Zampa is a wonderful leg-spinner who comes with a lot of experience," said Chahal, one of the T20 cricket's finest spinner himself, in a big compliment. "He has also played in India, and the wickets here are similar to those back home. His arrival has strengthened our attack because he comes fresh from international duty in the T20 format."

Given RCB players won't have their passionate Chinnaswamy supporters cheering for them this year, Chahal said it's "disappointing" but certainly an uncontrollable in COVID-19 times.

"Not having fans in the stadium will be a disadvantage because their support makes a lot of difference," he said.

"Given the circumstances, there is nothing we can do about it. Having said that, we are used to playing without spectators during first-class matches, so we just have to accept it," Chahal added.

Royal Challengers Bangalore kickstart their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Dubai on September 21.
