Under Ricky Ponting’s coaching, Delhi Capitals qualified to the IPL 2019 play-offs for the first time in seven years. And the former Australia captain is keen to better his record this time around.
After arriving in UAE for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League, Ponting is monitoring his wards closely in the net sessions. During one of those sessions, his natural instinct as a slip fielder was on display.

When Shikhar Dhawan went for a wild swing while facing Ishant Sharma in the nets, the ball took the outside edge, which led to Ponting taking an imaginary catch as he put his hands together like a slip fielder would have.
Taking to Twitter, Delhi Capitals shared a video of the same with the caption: “When the ‘slip fielder’ within you is always alive.”
Last week, DC skipper Shreyas Iyer had talked about Ricky Ponting’s influence as a head coach.
“I feel blessed to be working with someone as Ricky Ponting’s stature so closely. He is such a legend and makes everyone from the most senior one to the newest guy feel at home and as a part of the unit. As a captain, he gives me freedom and that has helped me grow as a captain," Iyer had told IPLT20.com.
BCCI unveiled the IPL 2020 schedule on Sunday (September 6) and it was confirmed that DC will open their campaign against Kings XI Punjab (SRH) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 20.
The 13th edition of IPL will kick-start on September 19. Defending Champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the tournament opener in Abu Dhabi.
