IPL 2020: BCCI unsure on whether Suresh Raina can return to CSK camp for IPL 13

Suresh Raina cited concern for his family for returning to India before IPL 2020 began.

Suresh Raina | IANSChennai Super Kings’ (CSK) vice-captain Suresh Raina created quite a furor when he decided to leave UAE before the tournament even started and opted out of the upcoming IPL 2020 which begins from September 19 onwards.

This was due to the breakout of COVID-19 in the CSK camp, affecting 13 members including two players in Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Raina began feeling uneasy in the 6-day quarantine on arrival itself and with this outbreak in the camp, returned to India citing the health of his kids daughter Gracia and son Rio.

Now, with the rumors floating around that after Raina and N Srinivasan patched up following the CSK owner’s outburst in an interview to Outlook India, where he suggested that Raina acted like a prima donna; the left-hander might come back to CSK and feature in the IPL 13.

But the BCCI is not quite sure whether Raina can waltz into the CSK camp in Dubai for the tournament after exiting the bio-secure bubble.

BJP MP Sunny Deol hopes Suresh Raina’s relatives will get justice soon

"When the bio-bubble is not safe how does one take a chance? I have a family with two little kids and elderly parents," he was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

On Friday, he told a news agency: "It was a personal reason and I had to come back for my family", referring to the unfortunate and violent incident in Pathankot that took a huge toll on his family.

A BCCI official told Times of India,” What the BCCI will have to do is evaluate what exactly were the reasons. If it's about his family, it's his personal reason. If it was a rift with MS (Dhoni), then it's CSK's internal issue. If he came back because of depression, then it's a mental issue. We can't let him go if he's depressed. Who'll be responsible if something goes wrong?"

The Board is unsure if Raina has sought counseling, which is important in today's times, especially under such extreme pressure that professionals have to go through.

Until then, the BCCI is unlikely to allow him to head back.
