Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra differs from ex-India cricketer Gautam Gambhir's views for MS Dhoni's batting position in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. He didn't agree with Gambhir who had said Dhoni should bat at number 3 in absence of Suresh Raina.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star batsman Raina decided to return home ahead of the IPL 2020 citing personal reasons. He left a void in the batting line up and Gambhir felt Dhoni should step up.

Responding to a question about Dhoni's batting position for the upcoming season, Aakash said, "It is a very good question. If he promotes himself, then I feel it will actually be very good. He will not come way up the order, it is not that he will come at No.3."
"Gautam Gambhir has suggested that he should come at No.3, I don't feel that he should come at No.3 because they have Watson and Faf du Plessis at the top. And then they have Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Murali Vijay, and sending them all down the order is very difficult."
Chopra said Dhoni batting at number 4 would be better for the team. "No.4 would be an ideal number but I would say that it would be more important for Dhoni as to how many overs are remaining than his batting position."
Aakash also said Dhoni can ignore the batting position and may go out to bat if CSK loses a wicket after midway in the innings.
"Whenever Chennai Super Kings reaches around the 10-over mark, then whoever gets out, whether it is the first wicket or the second wicket, Dhoni should walk into bat is what I feel.", he said in his YouTube video.
