IPL 2020: CSK players and support staff test negative for COVID-19; one more test remains

13 personnel who had tested positive will undergo tests after their two-week quarantine.

Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad won't be available before Sept 12There were tremors felt in the IPL 2020 camps in the UAE, when it was revealed that 13 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) members including two players had tested positive for the Coronavirus. The two players were later revealed as Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

This led to their premier batsman Suresh Raina returned to India as reports mentioned that he was not comfortable with the bio-bubble arrangement and feared for his two children if he caught the virus. And there were questions raised over the entire tournament’s security and health concerns.

However, now there is some good news filtering in as all the players and support-staff tested negative in the Covid-19 test carried out on Monday. All the players and support staff will have to undergo another test on September 3.

If all of them pass the final hurdle, they will be allowed to take the field from September 4. Chahar and Ruturaj will have to remain quarantined and will not be available for practice before September 12, as the 13 personnel who had tested positive will undergo fresh tests only after their mandatory two-week quarantine.

There are already questions about the availability of veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is yet to arrive in Dubai and postponed his travel plans. Meanwhile, the team’s South African players Faf du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi went straight into quarantine after arriving in Dubai.

"We hope that everything will be sorted out over the next few days and we will be able to come up with our best performance in the IPL," a source said.
