The spread of COVID-19 in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp has added to the woes of BCCI as they are still planning to finalise the schedule for the IPL 2020.

The schedule, which is already being reportedly delayed due to spike in COVID-19 cases in Abu Dhabi, is expected to oversee further changes after multiple members of the CSK squad contracted the virus.
According to a TOI report, Mumbai Indians (MI) were set to play CSK in the inaugural game of the tournament but it may not be possible now. Instead, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are likely to play the curtain-raiser match against the defending champions.
The reason for this move, according to the same report, is the need of star players in the opening game.
“It could possibly be Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) because in the first match, you’ll need star players on the field. If MS Dhoni is missing, then it has to be Virat Kohli. While it’s not certain yet if CSK will or will not play the opening game, the governing council has to remain prepared for a switch,” those tracking developments quoted as saying by TOI.
As per the BCCI media release, 13 personnel have contracted COVID-19 among 1,988 tests carried out between August 20 to 28. Report suggests that at least 10 members, including two cricketers, are from the CSK camp.
According to the BCCI’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), all those who test positive are mandated to go through an additional 14-day quarantine.
The 13th edition of Indian Premier League will be played in UAE from September 19 to November 10. The 60 matches will be held behind closed doors across three venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
