IPL 2020: RCB's AB de Villiers prepares for wicketkeeping role in the upcoming IPL 13

De Villiers has been a part of RCB franchise since the 2011 IPL.

Wicketkeeping gear in AB de Villiers' photo gave a hint that he might keep for RCB this season | InstagramRoyal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) began their outdoor cricket training at the ICC cricket academy in Dubai. Before that, the players and officials of the franchise had a get-together after completing the mandatory 6-day quarantine period.

RCB, this season is going to do things differently and one of those things is asking their South African talisman AB de Villiers to keep wickets for them. De Villiers has kept wickets for the franchise in the past and did it for South Africa after Mark Boucher’s retirement, until back troubles and focus on batting led him to give up the job to Quinton de Kock.

Even head coach Simon Katich talked about the possibility of AB keeping wickets this season and in a virtual press conference, had said, "Obviously we've had a lot of discussions around the makeup of our team. AB has kept wickets in South Africa before so I'm sure that will be a topic for discussion. But what is the right balance in these conditions will also come into play. He's got a huge role to play for us, given the number of performances over the years for RCB and South Africa.”

IPL 2020: "Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers still have plenty to offer," says RCB director Mike Hesson

We'll see what happens with his job behind the stumps and with the bat,” he had added.

Well, it seems his words might come true as AB de Villiers had posted photos of his gear a day before RCB began practice in which wicketkeeping pads and gloves were visible. In the latest photos posted by the franchise, De Villiers is seen practicing keeping apart from his batting sessions.
