IPL 2020: India comeback still the "biggest motivation" for Royals' Varun Aaron

IPL 2020: India comeback still the "biggest motivation" for Royals' Varun Aaron

The 30-year-old last turned up for his country at the international level in 2015.

Varun Aaron | GettyRajasthan Royals' (RR) quick Varun Aaron remains upbeat over his chances of an India comeback and feels performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in UAE will be a stepping stone for him to be able to fulfil his desire.

The Jharkhand pacer made his India debut in 2011 but could only play 9 times each in Tests and ODIs till 2015, as the national selectors seemed to lose faith on him due to prolonged inconsistency of the line and length.

Just brutal pace at the highest level can't take you too far. Realising that, Varun has been working extremely hard on his game, trying to balance his speed with greater dependability.

"I definitely fancy a chance of coming back, that’s still the biggest motivation. I see myself coming back. For starters, I need to help Royals win the trophy this year and a lot of roads will open up from there," Aaron told the Gulf News

Injuries have also not helped him, but Aaron said the idea of reducing his pace, making a compromise with his natural strength has never crossed his mind.

The 30-year-old feels he is at the top of his game when it comes to fitness and is geared up for his second season with the Royals.

‘‘I don’t intend to reduce my pace. Injuries are a part and parcel for a fast bowler’s career...it has taught me a lot of lessons about cricket and life," he said.

"However, at this stage, I feel at the peak of my fitness again and feel really good that my pace hasn’t reduced at all," Aaron concluded.

IPL 2020 kickstarts on September 19.
