Former Australia captain and Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting landed in Dubai for the upcoming IPL 2020 which begins from September 19 onwards. He straightaway went into his hotel room for the mandatory 6-day quarantine period.
Delhi Capitals players and other support had already reached on August 23. “My view for the next 6 days, hotel quarantine is officially underway,” Ponting tweeted from his hotel room after landing in Dubai.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals also welcomed their head coach with a tweet saying,” ???????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????? Welcome to Dubai, @RickyPonting”
Ricky Ponting had raised a storm recently he said that he won’t allow senior off-spinner R Ashwin to run out batsmen at the non-strikers’ end if they back up too far. He cited Ashwin’s infamous mankading of Jos Buttler in IPL 2019, which divided the cricketing fraternity with many opposing it by calling it against sportsmanship; while the other half supported Ashwin, saying the batsman should stay in his crease until the ball is delivered.
Ashwin recently said that he has spoken to his IPL coach on the contentious issue and will reveal the details after a face-to-face meeting with Ponting. He also suggested the introduction of a free ball for bowlers in case the batsmen backed up too far.
