IPL 2020: Fans hope for live broadcast after Ashwin tells Ponting "look forward to catching up coach"

Ponting had recently said Ashwin won't be allowed to 'mankad' any batsman at Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Captains (DC) off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday (August 26) said that he is looking forward to catching up with head coach Ricky Ponting, who has left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to join the team ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Ponting will join the players in Dubai who are currently observing a six-day quarantine period during which they will have to test negative thrice for COVID-19.

"Really hard to leave my family behind at this time, but next stop Dubai. See you soon @delhicapitals" wrote Ponting in his tweet, to which, Ashwin quote replied, "Look forward to catching up coach. Can’t wait to get out there and play again."

Ashwin had earlier said that he had an "interesting chat" over the phone with Ponting over 'Mankading' and will have a detailed conversation on it when they meet up. The DC coach had recently said Ashwin would not be allowed to 'Mankad' any batsman while he is with the franchise.

The form of dismissal has been widely debated ever since Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler in an IPL 2019 match between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Ashwin holds the view that it is perfectly fine to run out any non-striker who backs up too far before the ball is bowled, while many in the cricketing fraternity disagree and term is as something that goes against the spirit of the game.

One thing is for certain that Ashwin and Ponting will meet up soon in Dubai and have a conversation around this topic, with both having contrasting views, it remains to be seen what will come out of their discussion.

The fans cannot wait to know and some are wishing for a live broadcast as they reacted to Ashwin's tweet hilariously. Here are some of the tweets:
