Delhi Capitals' assistant coach, Mohammad Kaif, says teams also have an off-field responsibility this year in order to make the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just as big a success as the previous seasons.
In saying so, Kaif batted for all involved to be vigilant and adhere to the guidelines given to them for the smooth conduct of the IPL 2020 in UAE from September 19 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I think if we want to make this IPL a success, we will have to take collective responsibility to not ignore the guidelines given to us. From day one to the last day of the tournament, which is November 10, we have to be more responsible," Kaif told IANS over the phone from his team's bio-secure bubble where they are quarantining before the training period begins in the coming days.
"These are the tough, challenging times for the players as there are a lot of guidelines that need to be followed. There would be many tests of the players and supporting staff for almost two-three times a week. But I still am very happy that the IPL is finally happening and the fans will get to watch it once again."
Kaif also understands that teams can't expect their players to hit the ground running immediately after five months break and said a few practice matches could be held before they step on the field.
"These are not normal circumstances. Players' bodies have not been in use for the last 4-5 months and this will result in their performances on the field. Some practice matches would also be organised to overcome that, and yes, a difference could be still seen on the field," said the 39-year-old.
"However, I would also like to add that the players have that calibre to adjust in every circumstance. That is the quality of a sportsperson. Everybody is quarantined right now. Nobody leaves his room. We still have time for IPL to start."
Delhi reached the play-offs last season and will be hoping to continue that momentum. Kaif said the team made some valuable additions to the set-up at the auction in December last year and they are confident of a maiden total.
"We are very excited about this season and our team has improved a lot from the last season. We have a complete squad and have picked some experienced players in (Ravichandran) Ashwin, (Ajinkya) Rahane, Alex Carey and (Shimron) Hetmyer."
"We already had (Kagiso) Rabada and Ishant (Sharma); now we have Anrich Nortje as well. The new players make this side very balanced this year. We played well last year also, and that confidence will help the players this season," he concluded.
