"One of those days when you can't do anything wrong": Gayle recalls his epic 175* in IPL 2013

Chris Gayle smashed 13 sixes and 17 fours during his 66-ball knock at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Chris Gayle | IANS When the Gayle force hits you, it hits you really hard. Ask Pune Warriors, the now-defunct IPL franchise, which has horror memories of the 'Universe Boss' at his best in an away encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium back in 2013 facing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

In an innings featuring 13 mammoth sixes and 17 fours, Chris Gayle smashed the Warriors to all parts of the ground for his epic 175 not out in 66 balls.

Gayle enforced his importance to an RCB line-up that he had joined only the previous season and in process, lit-up the entire tournament, where he ended up making 708 runs at a strike-rate of 156.29.

Recalling that innings during the show 'Open nets with Mayank' on IPL's official website, however, Gayle modestly said it "was one of those days" where everything hit the middle of the bat.

"I remember we were put into bat first and rain interrupted the proceedings after a couple of overs. So we had to return to the dressing room. My West Indies teammate Ravi Rampaul was in the side at that time and I told him that the wicket was a belter. We needed to get a minimum of 170-180 to give ourselves a chance to win the game. Eventually, I walked back into the middle after the rain subsided and I picked up from where I left off."

"I was in that flow and rhythm. As a batsman, you get the feeling sometimes that you cannot do anything wrong. And it was one of those days. It was remarkable that I was speaking about a team total of 175 but ended up scoring those many runs myself," Gayle amusingly said.
