The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) could not be conducted in due time due to the outbreak of Coronavirus across the world. The IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to start on March 29, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cash-rich tournament to be postponed indefinitely.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the world's richest cricket board, is trying all possible efforts to organize the IPL 2020 in September if the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in October-November, is canceled this year in Australia.

But the fate of the IPL 2020 is still in doubt as neither ICC canceled T20 World Cup 2020, nor the COVID-19 situation in India seems to be improving with the Coronavirus cases crossing 4.40 lakh-mark so far.

However, Indian politician and former IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla has expressed confidence in the BCCI that the decision regarding IPL 2020 will be taken in the best interest of both country and cricket.

He further revealed that the BCCI Shukla is monitoring the situation in the country and would take a "proper decision" keeping all things in mind regarding the future of the IPL 2020.

Shukla told ANI on Monday (June 22): “As far as IPL is concerned, they are keeping an eye on this and will take a proper decision on it. We have to see the benefit of our country, whatever would be in the interest of our country and cricket. They will take a proper step, there is no worry.”

He signed off by saying, “They will take a good decision while keeping in mind everything. I don't think that we should comment on anything before the decision.”
