With the speculation soaring that ICC T20 World Cup 2020 likely to be postponed to 2022, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 is the most probably to fill the void left by the showpiece event that’s scheduled to host in Australia later this year.

However, the ICC hasn’t yet taken any decision regarding the T20 World Cup 2020, which is slated to be held in October and November, but the global Coronavirus pandemic might force the ICC to postponed the tournament this year because of the COVID-19 travel restrictions.

While the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) is already considering hosting the IPL 2020 in September and October, Australia’s star speedster Pat Cummins has backed a potential IPL replacing the T20 World Cup.

Cummins, who was the most expensive buy the IPL history after KKR bought him for INR 15.50 crore at the auction last year, said it would be a great way to resume cricket with the premier T20 tournament if the T20 World Cup 2020 gets postponed because of the COVID-19 crisis.

Cummins told media in Sydney: “If that opens up a window, I think the IPL would be a great fit. (It’s) T20 brings together the best players in the world… it would be great for cricket.”

He further added, “You have millions and millions of people watching that tournament around the world... potentially even more after a long break off cricket. There's a lot of reasons why I would want it to go ahead but the main one is it's a great tournament.”

Cummins is also eager to return to cricketing action after nearly a ten-week break due to the COVOD-19 outbreak. He signed off by saying, “I´m just about ready to get back into it and ready for that next tour.”
