India’s wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has recently revealed a nickname of the Australian batting superstar Steve Smith, as well as, how his Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain got the name.

The 25-year-old Samson has addressed Smith as “Chachu” and revealed that the right-hander got his famous nickname from former Australian batsman Brad Hodge during a conversation with RR spin consultant and New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi on the RR podcast.

Samson said on the podcast, “It started with Brad Hodge, he used to call Smith 'Chachu', then when Hodgy left, I started calling Smith 'Chachu'. In return, Smith also started calling me 'Chachu'. We both really enjoy and continue calling each other that.”

The wicket-keeper shares a good relationship with Smith since the two have been playing together for the Royals for long. The Kerala lad also rated RR captain as one of the best brains in world cricket.

He further added on Smith, “I share a very good relationship with him. He is one of the best brains in world cricket and we all enjoy a lot playing under him.”

Meanwhile, Samson also revealed his favorite IPL knock, adding: “My favorite innings I think will be against RCB at the Chinnaswamy when I scored 91 and we won the game.”

The Royals have the number of talented overseas players like Smith, and England's dynamic duo Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes at their ranks, and Samson said that he observes all but more likes to observe English keeper who never sits idle in training sessions.

He concluded, “I observe Jos especially given he too is a wicketkeeper-batsman. He’s always working on his skills and his game and never sits idle. He’s either working on his keeping, batting in the nets, or running around the park. I love to observe and know-how he thinks and prepares as a keeper before a game.”
