Dav Whatmore is in favor of a shortened IPL season when things get back to normalcy.

Former Australian cricketer Dav Whatmore has been working with the Kerala Cricket Association for the past three years but has gone back home in Melbourne in time before the Coronavirus pandemic held the world hostage.

He is of the opinion that the IPL should happen this year, a curtailed one would do, once everything becomes normal once again. He said, “Keeping in mind the situation and the need to come out of it, I think a shortened IPL is possible. Once the situation improves, one must give it a try.

He has joined the list of former England cricketers Kevin Pietersen, Michael Vaughan and former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar who also expressed their opinions of having a shortened IPL later this year.

Adding to it, he was hopeful of Cricket Australia giving permission to Australian cricketers to participate in the tournament if it happens. Whatmore said, “Cricket Australia will give them permission to play. If not, at least make it optional for players to make their own mind and play.

The 66-year-old also talked about his former pupil and now Indian skipper Virat Kohli. He was asked whether Kohli’s below-par performances in New Zealand in the recent past are a matter of concern. He was sure that the Indian will get back to form as he is a class player.

Nothing to worry. Kohli is a class player. Every cricketer will have a poor series. Kohli will come back strong,” he said.
