After the recent Coronavirus outbreak, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League was postponed from 29 March to 15 April. But with the nation going under a 21-day lockdown which ends on 14 April, dark clouds of uncertainty hovering over the league’s future.

But former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels a short IPL i.e a five-week tournament leading up to the ICC World T20 in October and November would be ideal.

“Here’s a thought .. The IPL is played for the 5 weeks leading up to the T20 World Cup in Oz .. all players use it as the great warm up for the WC .. then the WC happens .. So important for the game that the IPL takes place but also the WC,” Vaughan wrote on Twitter.

However, India is supposed to play Asia Cup in the UAE in September which is going to be hosted by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Along with that, in September, monsoon arrives in India which makes it quite difficult to host matches in the country.

“September is the time when there is monsoon in India. Mumbai will be underwater, there could be steady rain in Chennai. It is a decision that can't be taken that lightly,” a senior BCCI official told PTI.

“You don't know the situation tomorrow. Let there be a sign that the curve is flattening and normalcy can return. That's when you start discussing options,” he added.
