Travel restrictions are likely to spoil Australians cricketers’ participation in the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), which has been rescheduled from March 29 to April 15 due to Coronavirus outbreak.

Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced "do not travel overseas" advisory that will remain in place indefinitely, aiming to avoid the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The level-four warning spells out "you should not travel" but is not a strict ban on travel. As per the government warning: "If you do travel, get professional security advice. Your travel insurance policy might be void. The Australian Government may not be able to help you."

If the travel advisory remains in place next month, Australian players holding the IPL contracts would need to finalise individual insurance and emergency-plan arrangements.

As per a report published in cricket.com.au, Cricket Australia (CA) is supportive of government’s travel advice.

"We've never seen anything like this," Australia skipper Aaron Finch told SEN.

"That (travel advice) has changed over the last couple of hours. That could change in two weeks or three weeks, it's hard to plan anything.

"But it's just about making sure everyone around you personally is safe and you're doing everything you can to stop the spread."

Aussie cricketers would also suffer a huge financial blow if the COVID-19 outbreak impacted the next home summer, which includes a lucrative Test series against India in addition to the men's T20 World Cup.

"That's the risk you take when you have the revenue-share model, when the organisation takes a hit then so do we," Finch said.

"We understand we're all in this together. I'm sure in the long run, everything will be back to normal at some stage. It's just hard to say when."
