Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Saturday (March 7) roped in former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower as its assistant coach for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), starting March 29.
The decision comes after Sunil Joshi – who held the same position earlier, quit following his appointment as BCCI’s new chief selector.
Flower, who has previously served as the head coach of England, will assist Anil Kumble in KXIP’s new coaching setup.
"I am truly excited to come on board as the assistant coach for Kings XI Punjab and look forward to working with Anil Kumble this edition of the IPL," Flower said of his appointment. "The team looks great and we have a fantastic line up and top-notch support staff and we can't wait to show the world what the Shers are capable of. "
During his stint as chief coach, Flower had helped England to attain the No.1 spot in ICC Test rankings. The three lions also secured their maiden ICC trophy under him by winning the 2010 World Twenty20. They also clinched the Ashes down under in 2010-11 and won a Test series on Indian soil in 2012-13.
Earlier, KXIP had announced that former South African internationals Charl Langaveldt and Jonty Rhodes will serve as bowling and fielding coaches respectively in IPL 2020 while ex-India opener Wasim Jaffer will play the role of batting coach.
In another development, Adrian Le Roux has been appointed as KXIP’s trainer whereas Andrew Leipus will be the team physio.
“The team we've managed to build is absolutely phenomenal. Each member of our support staff brings in a great deal of experience and insight that will help us reach the goals that we have set for 2020 here at Kings XI Punjab. I'm certain the team will hugely benefit from their collective experiences,” Kumble said.
