Kings XI Punjab opener KL Rahul has been named as the captain of the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) franchise for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2020. The Karnataka batsman has been the top-scorer for the team for the past two editions.

Rahul was bought by the franchise in 2018 for INR 11 crores and paid them back by slamming 659 runs in IPL 2018 at a strike rate of 158.41 and an average of 54.91 with the highest score of 95*.

He carried on with the same vein in IPL 2019 also, making 593 runs with one century and 6 fifties to his name. He also holds the record for the fastest fifty in IPL in just 14 balls.

KL Rahul had been in contention for captaincy ever since R Ashwin and KXIP parted ways and now it has been confirmed that the right-hander will helm the franchise in next season.
