India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is all set to leave Rajasthan Royals to play for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL), claims a Hindustan Times report.

IPL’s off season trade window is open till Thursday (November 14) and the franchises will have to submit their final list of retained and released players by that date.

Rahane has a price tag of INR 4 Crore and it is learnt that Royals would be getting two Delhi cricketers in return.

As per the report, Capitals have been in talks with Royals for a few months to fetch Rahane and bolster their batting line-up. Apparently, when the negotiations started, Sourav Ganguly, the current BCCI President, was still an advisor of Delhi Capitals.

With this deal, Rahane will be part of a batting line-up in which the top-order is comprised of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw while Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari are in the middle-order.

During the IPL 2019, Ajinkya Rahane led Rajasthan Royals in 8 matches, won just two of those games which forced the management to think for a fresh approach to bring their campaign back on track. Before their clash with Kolkata Knight Riders on April 25, the Royals removed Ajinkya from the leadership duties and appointed Steve Smith as their skipper for the remainder of the tournament.

Rahane had been with the Royals since 2011. He led the side in 2018 as well.

In 110 IPL matches so far, the Mumbaikar has amassed 3820 runs at a strike rate of 121.93 with 2 centuries and 27 fifties.
