Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 80 runs at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai and registered their ninth win of this season and with this win, they also reclaimed the top spot in the points table.
Earlier Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to field first. Trent Boult and J Suchith started off well with the new ball and conceded only three runs in the first three overs and in the fourth over Watson perished off for a 9 balls duck. Suresh Raina and Faf du Plessis rebuilt the innings and Raina's attacking cricket helped Chennai to accelerate and they took the score to 87/1 in the 14th over.
Faf got out after scoring 39 runs. Suresh Raina also brought up his fifty but couldn't convert it into a big one and Chennai reduced to 102/3 in 15 overs. In the last 5 overs, Ravindra Jadeja's cameo of 25 runs off 10 balls and MS Dhoni's 44* off just 22 balls helped Chennai to score 77 runs and thus they ended on 179/4 which was a good score.
In reply, Delhi Capitals started off poorly and out of form Prithvi Shaw once again got out in the single digit score. Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer counterattacked and took score to 52/1 in the 6th over but Harbhajan Singh dismissed Dhawan and broke this stand and after his wicket Delhi lost the plot and kept losing wickets after wickets and lost the last 8 wickets for just 47 runs and bowled out for just 99 and suffered a massive loss of 80 runs. Imran Tahir took 4 wickets while Jadeja sent back three batsmen to pavilion.
MS Dhoni was named Man of the Match for his 44* runs off 22 balls knock.
