Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 34 runs at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and clinched their first win after losing six matches in a row. With this win, Kolkata also kept their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs alive.
On a good batting surface after being asked to bat first Kolkata Knight Riders openers Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill gave a brisk start of 96 runs in just 9.3 overs. Shubman Gill continued to play shots and brought up his fifty as well and scored 76 runs off 45 balls before getting out. But Hardik Pandya had other intentions and he started playing big shots from the first ball and continued to hit.
He brought up the fastest fifty of this IPL in just 17 balls and brought Mumbai back into the match but due to lack of support from other ends, he couldn't take Mumbai home and eventually got out after playing an outstanding knock of 91 runs off just 34 balls. And Mumbai Indians finished on 198/7 and fell short of the target by 34 runs.
