The Royal Challengers Bangalore against Kings XI Punjab at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium saw some high-octane batting from the Play Bold team led by Virat Kohli. Both teams need to win the match, more so Kings than Challengers.
KXIP won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that came back to bite them in the last three overs or so. AB de Villiers made 82* and Stoinis slammed 46*, as RCB gathered 64 runs in last three over to reach 202/4 in 20 overs. Parthiv Patel too added 43 runs of his own, as RCB demolished Shami, Rajpoot, and Viljoen completely in death overs.
However, the moment of the match came just before the start of the 15th over. Ankit Rajpoot came on to bowl the over, but the ball was missing. Everyone began looking for the ball as neither the bowler, nor the captain had it, and similarly neither the umpires. But suddenly, Umpire Shamshuddin checked his pockets and found the ball.
He had taken the ball from umpire Oxenford before the strategic timeout was called and pocketed it, conveniently forgetting that he ever had it. Realizing his slip up, Shamshuddin rushed to the center of the pitch and handed the match ball to the bowler. The fourth umpire, with a set of new match balls, then hurried off the field before play resumed. AB de Villiers found the thing pretty hilarious.
