Royal Challengers Bangalore beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings by just 1 run in a last over thriller at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This was Bangalore's third win while Chennai's third loss in this ongoing IPL season.

Earlier MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to bowl first and Deepak Chahar gave a great start to his team by removing Virat Kohli for just 9 runs. Parthiv Patel and AB de Villiers started the rebuild phase and when AB was looking set Ravindra Jadeja dismissed him and reduced Bangalore to 58/2, Parthiv Patel was set at his end and his small partnerships with Akshdeep Nath and Marcus Stoinis kept his team in the match. Patel also brought up his fifty and in the death overs, Moeen Ali played a few shots and helped his team to post a good total of 161/7.

In reply, Dale Steyn gave a flying start to Bangalore and dismissed both Shane Watson and Suresh Raina in his first over. Faf du Plessis and Kedar Jadhav too couldn't last long and both got out off Umesh Yadav bowling and Chennai reduced to 28/4 in the 6th over. Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni's 55 runs partnership brought Chennai back in the match.

Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Rayudu and broke this dangerous stand. Ravindra Jadeja too got run out after playing a poor knock. MS Dhoni was rock solid at his end and all hopes of win are on him. In the last over Chennai needed 26 runs to win and MS Dhoni hit three sixes and one four in the first five balls but he couldn't score 2 runs on the last ball as Parthiv Patel's direct hit ran out Shardul Thakur. Parthiv Patel was named Man of the Match for his brilliant performance.
