Former India skipper and current advisor of Delhi Capitals franchise in IPL, Sourav Ganguly has come out in defence of Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni, whose angry reaction at the two on-field umpires' decision during Thursday's IPL 2019 game in Jaipur versus Rajasthan Royals triggered a massive controversy.
Dhoni very rarely loses his cool, but he did on this occasion when umpire Ulhas Gandhe flip-flopped on a no-ball call, which later the square-leg umpire Bruce Oxenford completely revoked to leave the CSK leader absolutely furious. Dhoni then indulged in an animated discussion with the two umpires, for which he got fined 50% of his match-fee.
"Everyone is human," said Ganguly when asked about the incident on Friday (April 12). "What stands out is his (Dhoni's) competitiveness. It’s remarkable."
Ganguly also lavished rich praise over Delhi Capitals' players for pulling off another fantastic victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in the return encounter away from home at the Eden Gardens.
On the back of Shikhar Dhawan (97*) and Rishabh Pant (45), Delhi chased down the 179-run target in 18.5 overs, with still seven wickets left. It clinched its fourth win of the tournament from seven games and climbed up to fourth spot in the eight-team competition.
Delhi had earlier defeated KKR at home as well.
"Two out of two against such a good team is outstanding. I am very satisfied. Everything at Eden is special. This is the best ground, the best pitch in the country," Ganguly concluded.
