
Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday (April 11) roped in Australian speedster Matt Kelly as a replacement for the injured Proteas pacer Anrich Nortje.
Nortje got ruled out of IPL 2019 owing to shoulder injury. He was roped in by KKR at his base price of INR 20 lakh for this season.
Confirming the signing of Kelly, the official Twitter account of KKR wrote: “Welcome #MattKelly Our pace armoury just got more fiery with this addition”.
The 24-year-old Kelly is yet to represent Australia in international cricket. The right-armer has featured in 16 First-Class matches, five List A games, and 12 T20s thus far. He has represented Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
As far as Matt Kelly’s record in the shortest format is concerned – he has claimed 19 wickets at an impressive average and economy rate of 18 and 7.43 respectively. He has the best bowling figures of 3/31 to his name.
