Earlier on a tricky wicket Chennai Super Kings won the toss and asked Mumbai Indians to bat first. Deepak Chahar gave a good start by removing Quinton de Kock for just 4 runs and later Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh also perished cheaply and Mumbai reduced to 50/3 in the 9th over. Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya's 62 runs stand rebuilt the innings and the former also brought up his fifty and in the end, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard's cameo helped Mumbai Indians to post a good total of 170/5.
In reply, Chennai Super Kings started off very poorly and lost both openers in the first two overs itself and Suresh Raina too couldn't last long and Chennai reduced to 33/3 in the 5 overs. Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni tried to rebuild the innings but they too couldn't accelerate and eventually, Chennai Super Kings finished on 133/8 and lost the match by 37 runs.
