Sanju Samson put on a show with the bat to lead the foundation for Rajasthan Royals’ daunting total against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday (March 29).

Coming into bat after the dismissal of Jos Buttler in the fourth over, Samson thrashed the SRH bowlers to all parts of the ground. The stylish right-hander scored a blistering 102 not out off just 55 deliveries to help RR post 198/2 on the board. His magical knock was studded with 10 boundaries and 4 sixes. It was Samson’s second century in the Indian Premier League. Earlier, he had scored an IPL ton while playing for Delhi Daredevils.

However, SRH opener David Warner overshadowed Sanju’s special effort with his breathtaking 37-ball 69, including 9 boundaries and 2 sixes. The southpaw added 110 runs for the opening wicket with Jonny Bairstow (45) while the cameos from Vijay Shankar (35 off 15 balls), Yusuf Pathan (16* off 12 balls) and Rashid Khan (15* off 8 balls) helped the home team cross the line with five wickets and an over to spare.

Speaking to Warner after the match for IPL’s official website, Samson said a score of 250 was probably what they needed to challenge SRH.

"You destroyed my day. My 100 was not enough because of the way you batted. The way you started the innings we lost the game in the powerplay. We needed some 250 on the board with someone like you in the opposition. It was special," Samson quoted.

The Rajasthan batsman then asked Warner about his approach during the run chase. To which the Australian opener replied: "As a batsman you try and identify if the ball is going to swing or not first. As a batsman if you get one to start it's good. A couple of dots can change the momentum.”

“Start as well as you can in the first six overs, was what we thought. Chasing big totals, it can go both ways. We got a good start and kept our adrenaline going. When the adrenaline is going you're in the mood," he added.
