The 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick-start on March 23. However, the complete fixture of the tournament is yet to be announced with the BCCI waiting for the announcement of general election dates.

As per a report published in Hindustan Times, a BCCI official has confirmed that the itinerary for IPL 2019 will only be revealed once the dates of general elections are out.

“The schedule will take some time as we need to wait for the general election dates to be released by the election commission. Since this is the most important event in the calendar year, one has to ensure that we work according to the dates and plan the games in a way that everything is in sync,” the official told Hindustan Times.

"We all know the kind of arrangement that goes behind hosting elections and that is the priority,” he added.

Last month, the BCCI had brushed aside the news claiming that the cash-rich league might be shifted outside India. On previous occasions, general elections in the country have forced the cricket board to move the competition out of the country.

The IPL was moved to South Africa in 2009 due to General Elections while a part of the league was played in UAE in 2014 because of the same.
