Jaydev Unadkat and Varun Chakravarthy attracted high stake bidding wars to become the joint most expensive players before being purchased by Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab respectively for Rs 8.4 crore in the 2019 Indian Premier League(IPL) auction on Tuesday, December 18 in Jaipur.
Unadkat, who got purchased in last season's auction for a huge prize of Rs 11.5 crore, was actually released by Royals ahead of this auction before they surprisingly started the bid on him at a base sum of 1.50 crore and fetched him back at Rs 8.4 crore despite stiff competition from Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings.
Chakravarthy, on the other hand, was finally rewarded for his impressive returns via mystery spin in the Tamil Nadu Premier League(TNPL) with perhaps the biggest day of his cricketing career so far.
Bids for the left-arm pacer and now well-known spinner were then followed by England all-rounder Sam Curran, who went to KXIP for Rs 7.20 crore before Delhi Capitals roped in South Africa's Colin Ingram for Rs 6.40 crore.
Also, Shivam Dube(RCB), Mohit Sharma(CSK), Axar Patel(DC) and Carlos Brathwaite(KKR) were bought after heavy bids for Rs 5 crore each.
Mohammed Shami and Prabhsimran Singh went to KXIP for Rs 4.80 crore each, while West Indies batsmen Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer were purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively for 4.20 cr each.
