IPL 2016 winners and finalists of the 2018 edition, Sunrisers Hyderabad parted ways with one of their most successful batsmen of all time in Shikhar Dhawan. The Indian left-handed opener was traded to his home franchise of Delhi Daredevils in lieu of three DD players.

Dhawan had played the 2008 IPL season for his home team of Delhi and scored 340 runs with four fifties. After which he was traded to Mumbai Indians for Ashish Nehra and played the 2009 and 2010 seasons for them.

Deccan Chargers, which were later rechristened as Sunrisers Hyderabad under new owners, brought Shikhar Dhawan in the auction and also named him captain of the franchise for the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 tournament.

Dhawan has gone on to record 4058 runs in 143 matches with 32 fifties with a strike rate of 123.32. He has hit 460 fours and 85 sixes in the tournament and has been prolific in Sunrisers Hyderabad winning the IPL in 2016.

However, discontent brewed between the two parties as SRH had let go of Dhawan before the IPL 2018 auction and later bought him back by using the RTM card for INR 5.2 crore. Dhawan felt that if he had been retained instead of being bought back using the RTM card, he would have gotten more money as retainership fees.

Dhawan scored 497 runs in the IPL 2018 for SRH, who ended up losing to Chennai Super Kings in the finals.

SRH have now traded Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils for three players in Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar, and Shahbaz Nadeem. SRH also released a statement on their official Twitter account and mentioned in that the reason behind Dhawan’s departure was his apparent unhappiness over the amount he was bought for in the auction.

SRH tweeted, “We have traded Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils for Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Abhishek Sharma. We thank Shikhar for his contribution to the team over the years and wish him the very best.”
