Mumbai Indians (MI) have firmly ruled out trading star batter Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the IPL 2027 season, asserting that he remains a non-negotiable core member of their squad.
Amid widespread media speculation linking him to potential player swaps with other franchises, MI sources told Cricbuzz, "SKY is not up for trade, and there have been no discussions, nor will there be."
While Suryakumar's spot is completely secure, the franchise's trade discussions regarding Hardik Pandya have reached a decisive phase. The five-time champions are actively seeking a shake-up to reset their roster dynamics and are prioritizing the acquisition of frontline bowling assets.
Speculations are rife that Punjab Kings (PBKS) have engaged in advanced talks with MI. A potential blockbuster swap is on the table, which could see Hardik head to the Ricky Ponting-coached side. In return, India's premier left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper-batter Vishnu Vinod would move to Mumbai Indians.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, PBKS sources stayed mum but didn’t deny the possibility of a barter involving Arshdeep and Hardik.
According to the report, Rajasthan Royals (RR) may have also entered the fray, with preliminary talks explored options involving Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravi Bishnoi. However, negotiations have seen limited progress as MI remain firmly focused on securing established fast-bowling reinforcements.
MI’s early talks with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) involving Harshit Rana did not progress because the three-time champions were unwilling to part with the pacer, the report further claimed.
Acquiring Arshdeep would give Mumbai Indians a highly effective powerplay and death bowler to pair alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
While the trade makes cricketing sense for MI, a major point of discussion is Hardik's role at PBKS. Shreyas Iyer has successfully led the franchise over the last two seasons, steering them to the 2025 final. Hence, a move to Punjab may not necessarily guarantee Hardik the captaincy.
With the IPL retention deadline looming on November 17, the next 48 hours are expected to prove decisive in confirming Hardik Pandya's next destination.
