“Shivam Dube, I would give for free”: Kris Srikkanth reacts to MI skipper Hardik Pandya’s potential trade to CSK

Srikkanth argued that adding Hardik would perfectly seal CSK's fast-bowling all-rounder slot.

Former Indian captain and chief selector Kris Srikkanth reacted to the potential IPL 2027 trade, involving Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The IPL trade window has been buzzing with rumors, particularly suggesting blockbuster player swaps. Initial media reports claimed that CSK would acquire Hardik Pandya from MI in exchange for an all-cash deal or a player-swap package featuring all-rounder Shivam Dube and young batter Ayush Mhatre.

Under Pandya's captaincy, MI faced severe team-formation issues and consecutive poor finishes, prompting speculations that both parties might look for a clean break.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth argued that adding Hardik would perfectly seal CSK's fast-bowling all-rounder slot.

Despite Dube hitting strong numbers in recent seasons, Srikkanth brutally suggested that CSK should readily part ways with him—even for free—if it means securing a world-class premier asset like Pandya to lock down a lethal top-five batting order.

"It'll be good for both Hardik and MI. Under him, they struggled with team formation and performance. Hardik Pandya will be a great inclusion for CSK because the all-rounder slot will be sealed. Shivam Dube, I would even give for free if I were CSK. I don't even need a trade to give Dube up. If I were CSK, I would definitely put him back in the auction and get him again if needed," Srikkanth said.

"And for Hardik Pandya, I don't mind CSK giving up Dube and Ayush Mhatre. CSK already has a great batting lineup, so giving up these two for Hardik will make it a gun top five," he added.

Srikkanth strongly recommended MI to appoint former KKR coach Chandrakant Pandit as their next head coach after they parted ways with Mahela Jayawardene.

"If I were MI, I would bring in Chandrakant Pandit as the coach. He's a local boy and has played a lot for Mumbai. So he'll be a great value addition for MI, and such a team needs a coach like Chandrakant Pandit. He's a good thinker of the game, and he'll not throw his weight around. He will do his job quietly and go," Srikkanth stated.

He also advocated handing the captaincy back to Rohit Sharma or transitioning it to former India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Under Rohit’s leadership, MI won the IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020, while Suryakumar led India to T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year.

"Rohit Sharma or Suryakumar Yadav can become the captain. One of them can become the captain for sure. So Chandrakant Pandit as coach with Rohit or Surya as captain will be ideal for MI. Rohit will also bring back the cohesion in the side. He can help with the rebuild before the mega auction next year," Srikkanth remarked.
