Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has mentored several young players in recent years, including prominent names such as Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson.
Now, it is reported that Yuvraj will join the Delhi Capitals (DC) support staff starting from the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to TOI, Yuvraj will join his former captain Sourav Ganguly in the dugout. Ganguly is expected to lead DC’s support setup as JSW Group returns to take control of the franchise's core responsibilities for a two-year stint.
"Who wouldn't want a Yuvraj Singh in the dugout? Many of his former teammates, including Ashish Nehra, Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag, have had coaching stints in the IPL. Yuvraj may be a little late to the party, but he has spent considerable time working with youngsters and understanding the demands of the role," the publication quoted a source as saying.
"He doesn't just train players; he mentors them. It's not limited to phone calls or virtual sessions. He spends hours on the ground, often standing behind the nets and working under the sun alongside his players. It's a genuinely hands-on approach that has benefited numerous cricketers," the source added.
This role marks Yuvraj’s first formal coaching stint in the IPL. His mentorship has yielded visible, breakthrough results on the domestic and international stage, with the likes of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya also making rapid strides.
Yuvraj Singh is widely regarded as one of the greatest white-ball cricketers produced by India. He represented the country in 304 ODIs, scoring 8701 at an average of 36.56 with 14 centuries and 52 fifties. He was the Player-of-the-Tournament in India’s 2011 World Cup triumph.
Yuvraj was equally good in T20Is, amassing 1177 runs from 58 matches. He was instrumental in India’s 2007 T20 World Cup title win as well. The southpaw didn’t get consistent chances in the longest format of the game. In 40 Tests, he scored 1900 runs at 33.93 with 3 tons and 11 half-centuries.
Yuvraj announced his retirement from international cricket on June 10, 2019, while his last appearance for India was in an ODI against the West Indies in June 2017.
