Mumbai Indians (MI) and Hardik Pandya are reportedly set to meet to discuss his future with the franchise after a disappointing IPL 2026 season. Under Hardik Pandya, MI finished 9th on the points table with just 4 wins and 8 points to their name.
Hardik Pandya had taken over the MI captaincy in IPL 2024, replacing five-time winning skipper Rohit Sharma. MI paid a bomb to trade him in from the Gujarat Titans, and the fans of the franchise were totally opposed to this move, booing him and the franchise even at the home ground in Mumbai.
Things didn’t go well as MI finished 10th on the points table, but things got better in IPL 2025, when Hardik led MI to the playoffs. But a poor IPL 2026 led to Hardik Pandya reportedly telling the franchise officials that he will be parting ways after the season ends.
Hardik and MI will thoroughly reflect on what went wrong during the season, according to Cricbuzz sources. Discussions over Hardik's future at MI will also take place, with the player's and the team's best interests being taken into consideration.
Furthermore, the famous Indian all-rounder is apparently already attracting interest from a number of teams.
The report also added that the franchise is in no mood to hurry with the review despite a poor season in the IPL. At the moment, Hardik Pandya is at the COE prepping himself for the Afghanistan ODI series.
Although Hardik's release or trade has not yet been finalized, the source indicates that other teams are interested in the 32-year-old's talents.
"There is no panic. The franchise will regroup and reflect on the season," said a source, as per the Cricbuzz report.
The report also gave details on the future of Suryakumar Yadav, who was recently dropped from the Indian T20I squad and removed from captaincy, despite winning the T20 World Cup 2026. He had a poor IPL 2026 with the bat.
However, according to the report, Suryakumar's future at MI is secure for the time being, with the franchise not taking any immediate action.
