Teen prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi revealed his reaction after seeing only two teams bid for him in the IPL 2025 mega auction. During the auction, only two teams — Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) — bid for him.
The franchise only reached Rs. 1 crore, despite DC's initial price of Rs. 30 lakh for Sooryavanshi. RR ultimately acquired Sooryavanshi for an extra 10 lakh. Later, the Royals' management disclosed that they were willing to pay a lot more for the 13-year-old.
They were proven correct after Sooryavanshi's 2026 season, in which he scored 776 runs and won both the Orange Cap and the Most Valuable Player title. The 15-year-old is ready to make his debut in India, and if he were to go up for auction anytime soon, his asking price would be at least 20 times what RR spent.
“I’ll tell you honestly. When I was picked, I was thinking, ‘Yaar, mere peeche do hi teams ne bid kiya, aisa kyu? Mai to accha khelta hoon, accha kiya tha trials mein, baaki teams ko bhi jaana chahiye tha’ (Man, only two teams bid for me. Why? I play well, I did well in the trials; the other teams should have come forward too). But now that I’ve been with this team for a year and a half, I’m telling you honestly, I’ve said thank you to God at least a thousand times. ‘Thank you, God, for bringing me into a team like Rajasthan Royals’,” Sooryavanshi told RR team manager Romi Bhinder on YouTube.
Every veteran player at RR, according to Sooryavanshi, is close by and constantly willing to advise him on what is good and wrong.
“The coaches here, the support staff, the players, the management team, the media team, the physios, the trainers, everyone feels like a family. I mean, like you are at home; you are so comfortable that you can share anything with anyone, you can talk to anyone about anything. If something’s bothering you, you can say it. I mean, I can’t explain this thing to you, how happy I am after coming to this franchise, this team. And honestly, it feels so good," he said.
