Rajasthan Royals (RR) teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi finished the IPL 2026 season at the leading run-scorer, with 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30, including one hundred and five half-centuries.
Along the way, Sooryavanshi shattered major milestones. The southpaw became the fastest player in history to score 1000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced (440 balls) and the first to smash 500 powerplay runs in a single edition. He also broke Chris Gayle's long-standing record for most sixes in an IPL season (59 sixes set in 2012) by hammering 72 sixes across 16 matches.
At just 15 years and 65 days, Sooryavanshi set a new IPL record as the youngest Orange Cap winner. The previous record was held by Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Sai Sudharsan, who won it at 23 years and 231 days in 2025.
As a result, Sooryavanshi dominated major awards at the conclusion of the IPL 2026 on Sunday (May 31), being named the Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker of the Season, Orange Cap winner, and Super Sixes of the Season.
Speaking after receiving the awards, the youngster expressed pride in his performance but admitted feeling a little pressure during media interviews.
"(How does it feel to win so many awards) No sir, it feels good, but I’m feeling a little pressure because I’m here for an interview. But yes, it’s a proud moment, it feels great, and I’ll try to do even better next season," Sooryavanshi said.
Regarding his explosive power and an inquiry from Ravi Shastri about his daily milk intake, the wonder kid smiled and revealed he doesn't drink milk anymore and relies on attacking the ball when it’s in his zone.
"Sir, I’m not drinking milk right now (smiles). But yes, I just try to back my game. If I feel that the first ball is in my zone and I can hit it, then I go all-out and try to play that way," he added.
Sooryavanshi mentioned that the biggest lesson he learned from this year’s IPL was adapting to pressure and circumstances.
"This season, I learnt how to play in pressure situations and how to change my game according to the circumstances. You can’t play every game with the same mindset. You have to read the situation of the game and play according to what the team requires. I learned a lot about that, even in the playoff games," he stated.
Despite his fearless and aggressive boundary-hitting style, Sooryavanshi emphasized that he is aware of the demands of modern cricket. He explicitly noted that prioritizing physical fitness will be essential to building a sustainable, long-term career.
"I’ll have to focus a lot on that because I want to play for a long time. I need to avoid injuries and things like that, so I’ll have to work on my fitness and focus even more going forward," he remarked.
Sooryavanshi credited the senior players and support staff at Rajasthan Royals for backing him, creating an environment where he learns a lot every day.
"(On Rajasthan Royals and the support he receives) Yes sir, everyone is very supportive and everyone there backs me. All the senior players and the support staff back me a lot, and I get to learn so much because these players have performed at a very high level. So it’s a really good environment to be in," he concluded.
