Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi tore apart the Gujarat Titans (GT) bowling attack in the ongoing IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 clash at Mullanpur on Friday (May 29).
Carrying his phenomenal form from the Eliminator where he hammered 97 off 29 balls, the teenager once again took control of a high-pressure playoff scenario.
When the Royals found themselves in trouble following early wickets, Sooryavanshi anchored the innings and brought up a mature fifty off 31 balls.
After completing his half-century, the southpaw put a pedal on the accelerator, hitting boundaries at will. He was looking set for his third IPL hundred but once again found a fielder at third man while attempting an upper cut like the last match.
Sooryavanshi perished for 96 off 47 balls, caught by Prasidh Krishna off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling. His whirlwind knock included 8 fours and 7 sixes.
With this innings, the 15-year-old prodigy became the first uncapped player to score 700 runs in a single IPL season and the first batter to tally 500 powerplay runs in a single edition. He also become the fastest batter to score 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls, reaching the mark in 440 balls, surpassing Andre Russel's 545-ball record by a big margin.
After his dismissal in the 18th over, Ravindra Jadeja (45* off 35) and Donovan Ferreira (38* off 11) stitched an unbroken 42-run partnership in just 16 balls to propel the Royals to a formidable 214/6 in 20 overs.
For his responsible knock in another knockout fixture, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media.
