Rajasthan Royals keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel has spoken about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s mantra after his scintillating 29-ball 97-run knock in the Eliminator game of IPL 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 27 in New Chandigarh.
Pat Cummins, the captain of SRH, chose to bowl first after winning the toss. With 12 sixes and five fours, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 97 runs in 29 balls. RR finished with 243/8 in 20 overs, with Dhruv Jurel scoring 50 in 21 balls, Riyan Parag scoring 26, and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 29.
Jofra Archer (3 wickets) and Nandre Burger (2 wickets) rattled the SRH top order in retaliation. As SRH was bowled out for 196 and defeated by 47 runs, only Ishan Kishan (33), Nitish Kumar Reddy (38), and Salil Arora (35) offered some resistance.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was named Player of the Match.
Sooryavanshi's courageous approach was lauded by Dhruv Jurel, who also disclosed that the young player never has any doubts while he battles.
“The best thing about Vaibhav is that he doesn’t plan too much because he practices a lot and always backs himself. Every time he goes out to bat, he believes in his ability. He never has that shadow of doubt that he can’t do it,” Jurel said during the post-match press conference.
Jurel explained that Sooryavanshi solely considers the ball and not the bowler's reputation, which is why the teenager is so unique.
“When you start cricket, coaches tell you to watch the ball, not the bowler. But as youngsters, we always end up watching the bowler. Vaibhav only watches the ball; that’s his mantra. He doesn’t give a damn about any bowler. He just wants to play the ball. That’s all,” Jurel added.
RR will now play the Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on May 29.
