For the second year in a row, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have left out their IPL 2024 winning captain, Shreyas Iyer, as they shared a social media post on the second anniversary of their third IPL title.
Shreyas Iyer and the Kolkata Knight Riders present a unique case. Despite taking them to their first IPL win in ten years last year, KKR released Iyer, one of India's best white-ball players. Punjab Kings offered Iyer INR 26.75 crore in the big auctions.
But the story did not stop there. Iyer, in all swag, didn't mince words when he told the world that he didn't get enough credit for winning the KKR title last year. Mentor Gautam Gambhir, who is now the India head coach, walked away with most of the limelight, with young players crediting him for a turnaround.
Shreyas Iyer, since the n has led the Punjab Kings to the final of the IPL 2025 and had a great start to the IPL 2026 as well, winning the first six games out of seven in the league stage.
On May 26, 2024, KKR defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final to win their third IPL trophy. To commemorate the moment two years later, the franchise shared a graphics post featuring notable players of their squad, excluding former captain Iyer.
