MS Dhoni remained sidelined during Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday (May 18), thus failing to make a single appearance at Chepauk in the IPL 2026 season.

The legendary wicketkeeper, however, treated the crowd to a couple of memorable appearances. During the innings break, Dhoni stepped out to the field for a team photoshoot, which led to the fans erupting with joy.

Later in the evening, Dhoni took a lap of honour around the MA Chidambaram Stadium, where he reunited with his long-time teammate Suresh Raina.

During the emotional lap, Dhoni walked around the ground, waving to the Yellow Army and taking selfies with photographers, ground staff and others.

MS Dhoni has missed all 13 of CSK’s IPL 2026 matches so far due to injuries. Initially ruled out for two weeks, Dhoni’s recovery hit an obstacle after he re-tweaked his calf muscle during a warm-up session. The 44-year-old then reportedly hurt his thumb, forcing him to miss the game against SRH.

After losing to SRH by five wickets, CSK’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. With 12 points from 13 matches, the five-time champions sit in sixth place and no longer control their own fate. They must win their last league match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on May 21 and depend heavily on other results to secure the final-four spot.

It remains to be seen whether Dhoni will be making any appearance at all – either in the game against GT or in the playoffs, should they qualify.
