Ishan Kishan was the toast of the 63rd match of the IPL 2026, which saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 18, 2026. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and chose to bat first.
However, the captain himself proved to be a problem for CSK, as he made 15 runs in 21 balls, not letting the team gain momentum in the power play. Sanju Samson tried to compensate with 27 runs, while Urvil Patel fell for 13 runs.
Kartik Sharma made 32, and Dewald Brevis made 44 in 24 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours, while Shivam Dube hammered 26 in 23 to take CSK to 180/7 in 20 overs. SRH captain Pat Cummins starred with the ball, taking 3/28.
In response, Travis Head fell for 6 runs, and Abhishek Sharma played a sedated knock of 26 in 21 balls. When these two got out, it seemed like SRH were in trouble, but Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen turned the tables on CSK.
They added 75 runs for the third wicket, with Klaasen scoring 47 in 26 balls, while Kishan continued to make 70 in 47 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. He ensured that SRH was well ahead in the chase even when he was dismissed, as the Hyderabad franchise won the game by 5 wickets, reaching the target with one over to spare.
With this win, SRH qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs and also took the Gujarat Titans with them into the top four.
After the match, Ishan Kishan was seen whistling towards the CSK crowd in Chennai, doing CSK’s trademark whistle podu celebrations. He was also seen doing get-out gestures towards the crowd and fist-pumping in joy.
