Virat Kohli roared back to form for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with an unbeaten century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Raipur on Wednesday (May 13), silencing critics after bagging two successive golden ducks.
Chasing 193 for victory, the ace batter smashed 105* off 60 balls with the help of 11 fours and three sixes to take RCB over the finishing line with five deliveries to spare.
Beyond his masterful batting display, Kohli's light-hearted mid-match interaction with KKR's Manish Pandey went viral on the internet.
Having completely found his rhythm during the high-pressure chase, Kohli was captured on camera signaling a potential ramp shot to Pandey between deliveries.
The RCB talisman was caught on stump mic, saying: "Haan, abhi maarunga dekh. Ab toh India ke liye thodi na khelna hai, ab toh har shot lagega" ("Yes, watch me hit it now. It's not like I have to play for India anymore, now every shot will come off"), poking fun at his freedom to experiment after retiring from T20 internationals.
During his match-winning ton, Virat Kohli became the first Indian and only the sixth player overall to cross 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. He achieved this feat in just 409 innings, making him the fastest ever, surpassing Chris Gayle's record of 423 innings.
