Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a 9-run (via DLS method) loss to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 7, 2026, in the ongoing IPL 2026 tournament. This win kept LSG alive in the race for the playoffs, and RCB suffered a dent in their campaign.
In a rain-reduced 19 overs-a-side game, LSG was asked to bat first and posted 209/3 with Mitchell Marsh making 111, Nicholas Pooran making 38, and Rishabh Pant scoring 32* in 10 balls.
In response, RCB batting failed to get any momentum despite 61 by Rajat Patidar and a late surge by Tim David (40), Krunal Pandya (28*) and Romario Shepherd (23*). RCB only managed 203/6 in 10 overs.
One of the major setbacks for the defending champions chasing 213 was Virat Kohli falling for a 2-ball duck. Despite the setback, RCB managed to stay in the top four. However, they must perform at their best in the final four games of the season.
Following the setback, former captain Virat Kohli addressed the dressing room, telling his colleagues to be positive and enjoy the upcoming matches.
“Why did we get those six wins? Because we were enjoying, and we were only worried about our standards, and we weren’t even looking at the opposition. And I want to see absolute enjoyment and excitement to get back in the park, regardless of what the jersey color on the other side is," Kohli said in a video shared by RCB on X.
RCB will next play at their home against the Mumbai Indians in Raipur on May 10.
