Legendary India opener Sunil Gavaskar was left fuming as Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah erred twice in the same over during their ongoing IPL 2026 game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 4, 2026 in Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mitchell Marsh made 44 and Nicholas Pooran finally found his form hitting 8 sixes in his 21-ball 63 runs. LSG tripped a bit in the middle overs, but Aiden Markram’s 31* and Himmat Singh’s 40* gave them a strong finish as they finished on 228/5 in 20 overs.

Corbin Bosch picked 2/20, but the focus was on Jasprit Bumrah, who went for 45 runs in 4 overs.

Bumrah has not been in the best of forms, taking only 3 wickets in 9 IPL games, one of the major reasons behind MI’s poor run in the tournament.

In the LSG innings, Bumrah bowled the 14th over and erred badly bowling two no-balls. The first came on the second ball of the over, when Himmat Singh edged the ball to keeper Ryan Rickelton. However, the sirens went off and Himmat survived.

Off the free-hit, Himmat sliced the ball towards covers, in an attempt to hit a big shot, and he was caught at the position. However, the siren went off once more.

This was unacceptable from a seasoned campaigner, and commentator Sunil Gavaskar chastised Bumrah for failing to stay behind the line.

This is not acceptable, you are a professional cricketer, wide, I can understand but bowling no-ball, it’s clearly not acceptable," furious Gavaskar blasted Bumrah on commentary.

Bumrah has not been in form at all for MI and has bowled 8 no-balls in the IPL 2026 tournament.
