Delhi Capitals (DC) are currently experiencing their worst nightmare in the IPL 2026. Just days after losing to the Punjab Kings, where they couldn’t defend 264 runs at home, the DC batting failed against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 28.
DC batted first and was reduced to 6 wickets for 8 runs in the powerplay as Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar ran riot on their batting lineup. There were three scores of 0 from their top six batters. Only Abishek Porel with 30 and contributions from David Miller (19) and Kyle Jamieson (12) helped DC move ahead of the lowest team total in IPL history.
However, they were bowled out for 75 runs. RCB wasted no time in chasing that down for the loss of one wicket and won the game in 6.3 overs by 9 wickets.
These two back-to-back failures at home have put DC in a precarious position with only 3 wins from 8 games, meaning they are in 7th spot on the points table with 6 points to their name and a net run rate of -1.060.
Co-owner Parth Jindal delivered a strong statement following the Delhi Capitals' devastating nine-wicket loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, exhorting the team to remain cohesive, persevere, and maintain faith in spite of the severe setback.
“Stay together more than ever now, @DelhiCapitals—really very tough to take, but we must keep fighting and keep believing," Jindal wrote on X.
Axar Patel, the captain of the Delhi Capitals, said that he was still trying to come to grips with the devastating loss while emphasizing the significance of moving on from the setback and recovering for the next game.
"I still don’t understand what happened. But everyone says that in cricket, every day you have to be on your toes, and you have to come back and do the same things again and again. But yes, when you go into the next match, you have to forget this and move on," Axar told broadcasters.
DC will next go to Jaipur to clash withthe Rajasthan Royals on May 1.
