The Lucknow Super Giants vs Kolkata Knight Riders encounter in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) on Sunday was undoubtedly the most exciting of the season.  

KKR was asked to bat first by LSG captain Rishabh Pant, who had won the toss. Thanks to Rinku Singh’s 83 and Cameron Green’s 34, KKR managed to post 155/7 in 20 overs from being 93/7 at one stage.

In response, Rishabh Pant (42), Aiden Markram (31), and Ayush Badoni (24) kept LSG in the game. Mohammad Shami hit a six off the final ball, with 7 runs needed to level the scores and take the game into the super over.

LSG only managed to score 1 run, losing two wickets, and Rinku Singh hit a four to take KKR to a win in a super over.

However, a crazy theory was spread on social media that the Rishabh Pant-led team would have won the game if an umpiring blunder in the 12th over had not occurred. In a video shared on X, a user claimed that umpire made a mistake by signalling four for a shot that shiuld've fetched six runs. 

LSG captain Pant was shown to hit KKR pacer Kartik Tyagi for a six over the fine-leg boundary, but the umpire signaled it as a four. The footage showed that the ball bounced very near to the bouindary padding, and many fans claimed that it was s six and there was even a graphic showing that the ball went for a six.

The incident had happened on the first ball of the 12th over, bowled by Tyagi, and though the video showed that the ball had seemingly hit the padding on the full, there were other camera angles that showed that the ball had in fact bounced just before the boundary padding before crossing the boundary ropes. Hence, the on-field umpire, was correct in his assessment and rightfully signalled four runs.
