Indian Premier League (IPL) provided a positive update on Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Lungi Ngidi, who suffered a serious head injury after falling awkwardly while attempting a catch of Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Priyansh Arya at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 25).

Taking to X, IPL released a statement, which suggested is in stable condition and will be discharged from the hospital soon.

“He was shifted to the hospital in an ambulance as he complained of a headache and neck pain. Ngidi is stable and is due to be discharged shortly from the hospital,” the statement read.

The official X handle of Delhi Capitals also shared a similar statement, much to the relief of the fans and the entire cricket community. 

"Ngidi is stable and is due to be discharged shortly from the hospital," DC wrote on X.

The incident unfolded in the third over of PBKS' chase when Arya played a slash at a full ball on the stumps off Axar Patel. The ball went high towards mid-off, where Ngidi ran back to take the catch. However, he misjudged the chance and failed to get his hands to the ball.

While falling backwards, Ngidi landed badly with the back of his head hitting the ground hard. Medical staff and the team doctor rushed to the scene. The injury was so severe that an ambulance was brought onto the field, and he was stretchered off with a neck brace.

Play was halted for over 15 minutes following the unfortunate episode. Vipraj Nigam replaced Ngidi as a concussion substitute.
