Virat Kohli starred with the bat in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) five-wicket win over Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday (April 24).
Chasing 206, Kohli slammed 81 off 44 balls and stitched a 115-run partnership for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (55 off 27) to help RCB overhaul the target with seven deliveries to spare.
Speaking during the post-match press conference, GT assistant coach Vijay Dahiya heaped praise on Kohli, highlighting his unbelievable energy, awareness, and willingness to win.
“I think it’s amazing. If you look at his energy… his awareness, his energy and his willingness," Dahiya told reporters, before revealing that Kohli remained unsatisfied despite his match-winning effort. “After the game… he was disappointed, saying he could have converted this to a 100," he added.
Dahiya noted that the surface in Bengaluru was challenging and, yet Kohli made it look easy. “Kohli made the surface look easy. It wasn’t an easy sort of a wicket… when you’re commanding the situation, you make the bowler bowl where you want," he explained.
Dahiya also emphasized Kohli's exceptional ability to put opposition bowlers under pressure, calling it a defining trait of his game. “That willingness to do well… his mindset sets him apart from a lot of other people," he said.
Apart from his batting, Kohli’s fitness and intensity in running between the wickets drew praise from Dahiya. “He’s still one of the best runners… pushing youngsters to take two," he noted.
Vijay Dahiya described Virat Kohli as stubborn in the right way, noting he isn't playing to prove a point to others but is competing with the "man in the mirror" to improve every day.
“He’s not playing to prove a point to anyone. It’s ‘man in the mirror’… he wants to be better than what he was yesterday," Dahiya remarked.
With this knock, Kohli reclaimed the IPL 2026 Orange Cap, bringing his total to 328 runs in seven matches. On the other hand, RCB moved to the second spot in the team standing after this win.
